For Feng Chen Wang, the launch of her SS21 collection has been unlike most right now, hinting back at normality. As China slowly returns to a time of Pre-Covid19, with fewer restrictions and a boost in the economy, consumers are getting back to their old habits and looking to indulge. So much so that the designer has recently opened two flagship stores to showcase her latest collection.
As usual, Feng Chen Wang's approach is unique, aiming to create exclusive pieces where her trademark aesthetic and attention to detail can truly shine. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art, Feng has been continuously establishing her brand's identity, heavily focusing on outerwear, complex layered construction, and a strong passion for denim.
“They are looking for something special and different. Before, a lot of young customers were enjoying luxury brands—the brands whose products are the same all wherever you go in the world—and buying logos, big logos. But now, they are looking maybe for something more real, unique, and authentic.”
The SS21 collection keeps on exploring the deconstruction and asymmetry themes Feng Chen Wang is known for, while also mixing traditional techniques and colorways. Denim is on focus, with acid washes and tie-dye effects that give the collection a sort of exclusivity, as each piece is different from the next. On this note, the collaboration with Levi's Red label is still going strong, this time delivering a range of detailed jackets and jeans.
